Drawer Organization

How many of us have drawers in our kitchen that look like this?  I have quite a few.  I am also not a fan of the ones that you buy in the store because they just slide around, and they never stay where you put them.

So out of some simple trim pieces that I bought from a hardware store I made my own, and they will never move.

1st - I cut my trim pieces to make a rectangle that are the exact dimension of my drawer.

Next - I glued them together and slid them in place, you want a nice snug fit so that they will not slide or you can also glue them in place.

Now I have a few more drawers to do.

Halloween Update

It is time to get ready for Halloween.  The other day I got out my halloween box and I had this old sign that I made years ago, but I never put it out because I knew I could do so much better.  So here is the REDO.

I love it,  Halloween Subway art.

Pottery Barn Knock Off

I found this awesome Pottery Barn shelf that I thought would be perfect for my sons room. He needs a place where he can neatly display his legos, and also hang stuff.  I figured it would serve a great multi use purpose.

First cut a 1X6 to your desired length.

I cut my side scrolls to a length of two feet, then I traced my desired shape and cut it out with the scroll saw.

Last I cut a 1X4 to the length in between to the two scrolls, and nailed it all together.

After a lot of sanding and puttying I was finally ready to paint it.

After I got it all finished I realized he might need a second one he has a lot of legos, but the next one will not have hooks.

Traveling Bag

I made the cutest traveling bag today, and I was so proud of myself it was the first time that I have ever put in a zipper, usually I still just have my mom do it for me.  Now I just need to go on a trip so I can use it.

You will need 4 pieces of fabric cut to 18 X12

One 18inch Zipper

And a sewing Machine with a zipper foot

Start with your first fabric face up then place your zipper in the middle followed by you next fabric face down.

Use Your zipper foot
Next do the same thing with the fabric on the other side of the Zipper.

Iron your fabric so that the top and bottom fabrics is laying away from the zipper.
Next take the four pieces of fabric and lay together with the zipper positioned at the top and sew the four pieces of fabric together at the bottom.
Then lay your material so that the bottom seam and zipper are both in the middle are laying on top of each other and sew the two sides .  From this point on I found it easiest to work with the zipper only half way zipped up.
Last, take all four corners of the bag and sew them on a diagonal about four inches from the corner.
Reverse and walla you have the perfect cosmetic traveling bag.

Photo Shelves

I finally finished some photo shelves that I have been working on, and I have to say I think they turned out awesome.

I am still trying to decide if I should put a third one up on the bottom, or would that be too much.

Tissue Paper Balls

I first saw tissue balls when my Sister in Law made them for her daughters birthday party, and figured I had to try them for myself.  So these ones I made for my son and daughter birthdays, and they were a lot of fun.

They would be a great decorations idea for any birthday of holiday party, just adjust your colors accordingly.

Items you will need:

Package of Tissue paper
Scissors
Fishing Line or String

1st open up your package of tissue paper and cut it in half so you have a rectangular shape to work with.

2nd start folding it like and accordion from one of the short sides.

3rd tie your fishing wire around the center of you paper,  you want your string to be a couple of feet long because this is how you are going to hang it.

4th cut each end of your tissue paper so that is has a point on each end this just gives your tissue balls a little more character.

Next you are going to fan out your accordion folds and start peeling the tissue paper up one piece at a time.  Rotating from bottom to top.
Out of a nine piece package of tissue paper I was able to get 1 large tissue ball and 2 small ones that's not bad for $.97

Family Saying

I have been contemplating a saying to put on my living room wall above my children's pictures for a while. I love the saying Family is forever but I wanted something that was a little different to what you normally see. So this week I came across

Together... is the best place to be

it reminded me of one of my favorite songs Better Together by Jack Johnson.
